Margaret River (2.5 hours)
The jewel of the South West. World-class wineries, stunning caves, incredible surf breaks, and gourmet dining. Best visited spring through autumn. Don't miss: Mammoth Cave, Voyager Estate, and Surfers Point.
Lancelin Sand Dunes (1.5 hours)
Perfect for sandboarding and 4WD adventures. The massive white sand dunes are a Perth favourite. Bring a sandboard (or hire one locally) and prepare for an adrenaline rush.
Pinnacles Desert, Nambung (2 hours)
Thousands of ancient limestone pillars rising from golden sand. Best visited at sunrise or sunset for photography. The drive through Cervantes offers great fish and chips at the Lobster Shack.
York & Avon Valley (1.5 hours)
Western Australia's oldest inland town. Historic architecture, antique shops, skydiving, and hot air balloon rides. The Avon Descent white-water event in August is spectacular.
Mandurah & Dawesville (1 hour)
Dolphins, canals, seafood, and beautiful beaches. The Mandurah boardwalk and Dawesville Cut are worth the short drive. Try the famous Blue Manna crab at a waterfront restaurant.
Dwellingup (1.5 hours)
Mountain biking capital of WA. The Munda Biddi Trail, Lane Poole Reserve for swimming, and the Hotham Valley Railway make this a perfect family day out.
