Why Flood Cars Are Dangerous
Water infiltrates electrical systems, corrodes mechanical components, breeds mould in hidden cavities, and compromises airbag systems. A flood-damaged car may look fine initially but develop serious issues within months.
Warning Signs
Musty or mouldy smell (even with air freshener — check carefully). Water stains on upholstery, carpets, or in the boot. Fogging inside headlight and tail light lenses. Corroded wiring connectors (check under the dashboard). Sand or silt in crevices (door hinges, under spare tyre). Mismatched interior — replaced sections that don't quite match.
Electronic Red Flags
Intermittent electrical issues, dashboard warning lights that come and go, malfunctioning infotainment, and erratic sensor behaviour all suggest water damage to electrical systems.
Protection
Always get a PPSR check — it reveals write-off history including flood damage in some cases. Buy from reputable dealers who verify vehicle history. At NORTH Motor, we inspect every vehicle's history and never stock flood-damaged vehicles.
