Common Fail Points
Tyres below minimum tread depth, worn or misaligned headlights, cracked windscreen in driver's vision area, worn brake pads, leaking fluids, damaged seatbelts, and non-functional lights.
Pre-Inspection Checklist
Check all lights (headlights, brake lights, indicators, reverse, number plate). Test the horn. Inspect wipers for cracks and streaking. Check tyre tread depth and condition. Test all seatbelts for proper retraction and locking. Inspect windscreen for chips and cracks. Check mirrors for damage.
Under the Bonnet
Top up all fluids (oil, coolant, brake fluid, power steering). Check for visible leaks. Ensure the battery is secure and terminals are clean. Check belts for wear and cracks.
If It Fails
You'll receive a list of items that need rectification. Fix them and return for a re-inspection (usually at reduced cost). Common fixes are inexpensive — a light globe ($5-20), wiper blades ($20-40), or tyre replacement (if one is marginal).
