Full spare tyre (checked), jack and wheel brace, tyre pressure gauge, jumper cables, 5L engine oil, 5L coolant, basic tool kit, duct tape, and cable ties. For outback trips: recovery tracks, tow strap, and tyre repair kit.
Water & Food
20L drinking water minimum per person (more for outback trips), non-perishable snacks, portable gas stove, camp cookware, esky with ice, and reusable water bottles.
Safety & Communication
First aid kit, fire extinguisher, UHF radio, personal locator beacon (PLB) for remote areas, torch with spare batteries, emergency blankets, and a physical map of your route.
Comfort & Entertainment
Sunscreen (SPF 50+), insect repellent, camp chairs, hat and sunglasses, offline music/podcasts (limited phone coverage), camera, and binoculars for wildlife spotting.
Documents
Driver's licence, vehicle registration papers, insurance documents, RAC membership card, and accommodation bookings (printed — don't rely on phone reception).
